Privacy

This Privacy Policy describes how BattleBytes ("BattleBytes," "we," "us," or "our"), operated by Akiva Solutions, handles information when you use battlebytes.net (the "Site"). This policy is intended for users in the United States.

The short version: the Site sets no cookies, runs no analytics, and has no accounts. The only thing it stores in your browser is your light/dark theme choice. Embedded video and social posts load only after you click them. The battlefield maps request map tiles from a third-party tile service when a map loads.

1. Information we collect

a. Information you provide. If you email us (for example at [[email protected]](mailto:[email protected]) or [[email protected]](mailto:[email protected])), we receive your message, your email address and anything you choose to include. Reader tips sent to the editor address are handled as described in our Editorial Standards.

b. Automatic technical data. The Site is served through Cloudflare's content delivery network. Like virtually all web hosting, Cloudflare's infrastructure processes technical data such as IP address, browser type, pages requested and timestamps for security and reliability. We do not receive individual visitor logs from it for analytics, and we do not build visitor profiles. See Cloudflare's privacy documentation for how it handles that data.

c. Local storage. If you use the theme toggle, your choice is saved in your browser's local storage under a single key, bb-theme. It is not a cookie, it is never sent to us, and you can clear it at any time in your browser settings.

d. What we do not collect.

  • No cookies set by the Site
  • No analytics, tracking pixels or fingerprinting
  • No user accounts, sign-ups or comments
  • No advertising or ad-network scripts
  • No sale or sharing of personal information

2. Third-party requests the Site can make

Map tiles. When a battlefield map or the globe's map view loads, your browser requests map tiles and map fonts from OpenFreeMap (tiles.openfreemap.org). That request is made directly from your browser, so OpenFreeMap receives your IP address and the standard request headers, as with any web request. No other third-party request is made by the map.

Embedded video and posts (click-to-load). Videos and social posts on the Site appear first as plain placeholders. Nothing is fetched from the provider until you click a placeholder. When you do:

  • YouTube videos load from youtube-nocookie.com, YouTube's privacy-enhanced embed domain.
  • Posts from X load X's embed script and content.
  • Telegram posts load Telegram's embed script and content.

Once loaded, that content is provided by the service in question and falls under its own privacy policy and cookie practices, not ours. If you never click a placeholder, no request is made to that service.

Outbound links. The Site links to news reports, datasets and other third-party sites. Those sites have their own privacy policies; we are not responsible for their practices.

3. How we use information

Email correspondence is used to reply to you, to evaluate tips and correction requests, and to keep a record of corrections. Technical data processed by our hosting provider is used to serve the Site securely and reliably.

4. Sharing

We share information only with service providers that host and secure the Site (currently Cloudflare), when required by law, or in connection with a business transfer. We do not sell or share personal information for advertising.

We do not disclose the identity of people who send us tips without their consent, unless required by law.

5. Your privacy rights (United States)

Depending on your state of residence (for example California under the CCPA/CPRA), you may have rights to access, delete or correct personal information. Because we collect so little, in most cases the complete answer to an access request is "an email thread, if you emailed us." To make a request, email [[email protected]](mailto:[email protected]) with the subject line "Privacy Request."

Children. The Site is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.

6. Changes

If our practices change (for example, if we ever add analytics or advertising), we will update this policy and revise the "Last updated" date before those changes take effect.
