BattleBytes is built on open data. These are the credits the providers ask for, and the licenses under which we use their work. Where a dataset appears on a map, its credit also appears in the map's attribution control.

Data and map credits

  • Wikipedia war-map modules. Settlement-control data from Wikipedia's war-map modules, by Wikipedia contributors, licensed under CC BY-SA 4.0. The module and revision behind each snapshot are recorded in the published control file.
  • U.S. Geological Survey. Earthquake data from the USGS Earthquake Hazards Program, a U.S. government work in the public domain.

Our derived control layers

The control areas, front lines and gray zones we derive from the Wikipedia war-map modules are adaptations of CC BY-SA 4.0 material, and we release them under the same license, CC BY-SA 4.0. They are published as JSON at /data/control/. If you reuse them, credit "BattleBytes (battlebytes.net) and Wikipedia contributors," link to the license, and share your adaptations under the same terms.
