Not for operational use
Front lines, control areas, event pins and aircraft tracks are compiled from public reporting and openly licensed datasets. They are approximations. They can be wrong, they lag events on the ground, and some layers are delayed on purpose (see Methodology). Do not use anything on the Site for military, security, targeting, navigation, travel or evacuation decisions. If you are in or near a conflict area, follow official guidance from the responsible authorities and humanitarian organizations.
Claims are not confirmations
Parties to armed conflicts make claims about territory, casualties and attacks that cannot always be checked. We label claims as claims and say who made them. A pin, a map edit or a quoted figure on the Site means it was reported and met our verification tier for that layer; it does not mean it is proven.
Map colors are a key, not a verdict
Blue, red and green on our maps distinguish the parties in a given theatre. They are a legend for reading the map. They are not a judgment about which side is right, legitimate or lawful. Where the framing of a conflict is contested, we use neutral coloring for every party and say so.
Casualty and displacement figures
Figures for people killed, injured or displaced come from the institutions that count them and are given with that institution's name and date. Counting methods differ, totals are revised, and many deaths in armed conflict are never recorded. Treat every figure as an estimate.
Graphic content
Footage and imagery from armed conflicts can be distressing. Embedded material is click-to-load so you can choose whether to view it. We do not embed material whose main purpose is to show the dead or to humiliate captives.

Names of states, organizations, companies and products may be trademarks of their owners and are used only for identification, reporting and commentary. Their use does not imply endorsement or affiliation.
